(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 10)—The McKendree College hockey team wrapped up the first half of its 2005-06 season with a 9-5 road victory Saturday against the University of Iowa.
The Bearcats, now 14-12-1 overall, will ride an eight-game winning streak into the holiday break. McKendree will return to the ice Jan. 6 for a home game against Robert Morris College. Face-off at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights is set for 8:30 p.m.
At Iowa, sophomore center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) and sophomore wing Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) each scored two goals, while junior defenseman Brent Grimm (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill./O’Fallon) handed out four assists in leading the Bearcats to victory. McKendree broke a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes of play by exploded for five goals in the second period. The Bearcats added three more goals in the final period to pull away for the win.
Freshman wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) added a goal and two assists for McKendree, while Roberts chipped in with a pair of assists.
Sophomore Matt Brandt (Waterloo, Illinois/) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) turned aside 21 shots to pick up the win in goal for the Bearcats. Brandt has won each of his last three decisions.
